Douglas Bish, PhD
I am a Professor of Operations Management in the department of Information Systems, Statistics, and Management Science (Culverhouse College of Business) at the University of Alabama. My research utilizes tools such as optimization, simulation, stochastic models, and data analytics, to solve complex research problems with large societal impacts. My research interests include problems in healthcare, disaster management, and humanitarian supply chains.
My research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

- Our grant proposal to the National Institutes of Health Optimal newborn screening algorithms - efficacy and equity was funded. This R21 explores ways to improve newborn screening, and is in collaboration with the Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health . Congrats to my Co-PIs Ebru and Denise.
- Our paper Disease bundling or specimen bundling? Cost- and capacity-efficient strategies for multi-disease testing with genetic assays, published in Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, was selected as a finalist for the 2024 INFORMS Pierskalla Award for the Best Paper in Healthcare Management Science.
